Thomas Leung, MD, PhD, is the Herman Beerman Professor of Dermatology and a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as the Director of the Center for Precision Dermatology and the Residency Research Track at Penn, and is a Staff Physician at the Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center.

Dr. Leung’s research program, funded by the NIH and the VA, focuses on the immune regulation of inflammatory skin diseases and the mechanisms of scarless wound healing. He also directs the Skin Translation Core at the NIH-funded Skin Biology Disease Resource Center (SBDRC).

Originally from New York City, Dr. Leung moved to Palo Alto at age 10 and later graduated from Stanford University. He earned his MD and PhD from the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program, where he trained under Nobel Laureate David Baltimore. He returned to Stanford for his Dermatology residency and a postdoctoral fellowship with Seung Kim (HHMI) in developmental biology.

Outside of the lab and clinic, Thomas is an avid scratch golfer. He enjoys spending time with his family, following Philadelphia sports, and is a frequent visitor to the Haunted Mansion at Disney World.
