Thomas H. Leung, MD, PhD, is the Herman Beerman Professor of Dermatology and a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He is the Founding Director of the Penn 4D Center for Human Skin Biology, leads the Dermatology Residency Research Track, and serves as a Staff Physician at the Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center.
Dr. Leung’s NIH- and VA-funded research program leverages human disease as a discovery system to define the mechanisms governing immune-cell plasticity, granuloma formation, and scarless mammalian tissue repair. He also directs the Skin Translation Core at the NIH-funded Skin Biology Disease Resource Center (SBDRC).
Originally from New York City and raised in Palo Alto, Dr. Leung graduated from Stanford University before earning his MD and PhD through the UCLA-Caltech Medical Scientist Training Program under Nobel Laureate David Baltimore. He returned to Stanford for his Dermatology residency and a postdoctoral fellowship in developmental biology with Seung Kim (HHMI).
Outside of the lab and clinic, Thomas is an avid golfer and a dedicated follower of Philadelphia sports. He enjoys spending time with his family and is a frequent—perhaps permanent—resident of the Haunted Mansion at Disney World.
